Because chic and practical should not be mutually exclusive

Airline travel still conjures up romantic notions of being whisked away to far-flung destination with the greatest of ease, perfectly styled and ready to saunter off into the horizon of your dream destination. Nearly every airport street style piece you can find seems to feature pristinely turned-out looks from paparazzi faves like Victoria Beckham, Amal Clooney, and Kendall Jenner as they glide through the arrivals zone in impossible heels and without a crease in sight.

But let’s face it. For the rest of us mere mortals, airport dressing takes a bigger reality check. Airport security, miles-long sprints to boarding gates, carry-on baggage limits, and freezing cabins mean the hardest part of packing for your holiday is trying to figure out what to wear before it’s even begun. Add the extra challenge of figuring out what to wear when you’re leaving a colder climate (oh hey, Canadian winter!) to fly somewhere that never dips below 30º celsius. With all the taking off and putting on needed to get from car to your reserved seat, your favourite denim jumpsuit with its metal fastenings may not be the most practical of choices.

So if you haven’t got a personal assistant to help you change looks mid-air, follow my recommendations for the best down-to-earth items that will get you through security while making the terminal your personal runway.
