I knew I would like Adam Lippes in person. A U-turn into fashion from finance (Adam was on the investment banking track; it was structured finance and banking law for me), he’s from a part of the US not far from my part of Canada, and his disposition is as easy and sophisticated as the clothes he designs. With a clear and confident aesthetic, his beautifully constructed clothes appeal to my penchant for unfussy femininity. On his recent visit to London – which included an evening at the MatchesFashion.com townhouse, I managed to find out a little more about Adam’s NYC-based label, including plans for a new bag collection.
1. Who is the Adam Lippes woman?
“The Adam Lippes woman is incredibly considered and thoughtful in her choices, extremely busy in her life: family, work and play, and wants clothes that she can wear. She is successful, refined, intellectual and understated. She understands and will not compromise on quality or fit.”
2. What would you point to as a pivotal moment in your career so far?
“100%, the most pivotal point in my career has been the launch of Adam Lippes in February of 2013. It is really the culmination of my experiences in fashion and the chance to create a collection reflective of that.”
3. Can you share a sneak peek of what’s next for your label?
“We are currently working on pre-spring and spring 2015. As a designer, I am always so excited my the upcoming season as it is so fun so begin with such a blank slate. We have also just begun working on a very focused show and bag collection — designing and meeting with manufacturers in Italy with a planned launch date of fall 2015.”
