Unless you have been living under a Maison Martin Margiela ostrich paper weight the last couple of weeks, you are well aware that beloved Balenciaga creative director Nicolas Ghesquière has moved on from the house, and will be replaced by Alexander Wang. I remember Jeanne Beker announcing his appointment and profiling this young, relatively-unknown talent on Fashion Television all those years ago, so after what can conceivably be called a lifetime in these fast fashion times, I know I was not alone in my surprise at seeing him walk away. And so it goes – once again the designer has changed, but the house remains. The king is dead. Long live the king.
